02/10/2011 - Paul wins the second race at Brands Hatch and the 2011 title!

After Fridays testing Paul, after setting the second fastest lap in the morning session, topped the time sheets and was in confident mood saying "all I need to do is take pole for both races and two wins, which I feel is possible with the pace we have already shown today." Paul managed to set two very quick times in qualifying to take pole for both races, but with his title rivals all very close behind it was still not clear cut that Paul would win his third Clio Cup title.

At the start of the first race Paul made a slow start and was passed by James Colburn, one of his title rivals, and was second going into Paddock Hill bend. He stayed there until the checkered flag having been unable to find a safe way passed James.

After the race Paul commented "I was very happy to get two pole positions as it showed we have very good pace. It was not the best of starts as I was beaten into the first corner and that was where we stayed. I am happy with the result as it means it is still all to play for tomorrow."

In the second race all Paul had to do was bring the car home in first place and the title would be his, barring James Colburn finishing second and getting the fastest lap. Paul made a great start and headed off around paddock hill bend in the lead with Jake Packum second and holding off James Colburn and Aron Smith. Paul set about building a lead and despite a safety car period Paul was able to hold onto first place and finished the race with a 2.476 second lead and with Aron Smith finishing 3rd and James Colburn finishing 4th Paul took the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup title by 6 points as Paul had also set the races fastest lap.

After the race Paul said..."If anything, this championship means more to me than any of the titles that I have won previously. I’m almost at the point where I am lost for words.”

“It was a great race today, I struggled to get off the line yesterday and that cost us the win. Today there were no issues, I was off the line like a rocket and that was it. I’m absolutely chuffed to get the fastest lap of the race, to end the season in style.”
