Oulton Park
Paul endured a frustrating weekend in the Clio Cup at Oulton Park.
After qualifying 4th Paul slipped to 5th at the start which is where he stayed until the checkered flag after an uneventful round 7 of the championship.
In round 8 Paul had qualified 2nd but was beaten into the first corner by Jack Goff, in damp conditions. While Paul was trying to pass Dixon for 2nd (who had been passed by Goff for the lead) he was coming under immense pressure from Smith behind. Realising the need to get passed Dixon Paul started to press but locked up going into Lodge, loosing 4 places.
For the rest of the race the positions stayed the same and Paul crossed the line in 7th which leaves him joint 1st in the Clio Cup standings.
Paul commented after the race - " It has been a frustrating weekend, Race 1 was just one of those races, no over taking taking place throughout the race.
In race two I blame the commentators as, after watching a recording of the race, they said that 'Paul Rivett does not make mistakes!' just before I locked up!! Joking aside it was totally my fault. i was being pressured by Smith so I knew I had to get passed Dixon. I did not want to push too hard but I just locked up into Lodge.
It could have been worse as I only lost 4 places and I am still joint leader in the championship.
I feel sorry for the team as they, once again, did a great job setting up and preparing the car."
The next round of the AirAsia Clio Cup is on 19/20th June at Croft.
